FingerMotion (NASDAQ: FNGR) announced it has started discussions with prospective offtake clients for capacity at Brooks Campus #1, a 9.9-megawatt behind-the-meter power and compute site in Alberta, Canada. The move marks the first commercial step in the company’s broader plan to develop a 99-megawatt network of 10 sites across the Brooks, Coronation, Fox Creek and Vulcan areas. For Calgary and surrounding communities, the announcement signals potential new infrastructure investment and economic activity in the data center and energy sectors, though no definitive offtake agreements have been announced.
Through its relationship with BlueFlare Energy Solutions Inc., FingerMotion is offering two potential commercial structures. Under the powered land model, clients would provide their own modular data halls. Under the colocation model, BlueFlare would develop data-hall capacity with power, cooling and supporting infrastructure. In both arrangements, clients would supply and own their computing equipment. Powered land capacity is expected to become available in early 2027, according to the announcement.
The company continues to advance permitting and solicit expressions of interest, with a strategy of securing long-term capacity contracts before committing construction capital to individual sites. This approach could reduce development risk and align supply with demand, a critical consideration for large-scale data center projects that often face long lead times and high upfront costs. The campus is designed to operate adjacent to existing natural gas infrastructure, potentially avoiding the need for a new grid interconnection. That design choice could shorten development timelines and lower costs compared with traditional grid-connected facilities, making the project more attractive to offtake clients seeking faster deployment.
For the broader industry, FingerMotion’s entry into the Alberta data center market highlights growing interest in behind-the-meter power solutions that leverage existing energy infrastructure. If successful, the Brooks Campus #1 and the subsequent nine sites could help position Alberta as a competitive destination for compute-intensive operations, including those supporting artificial intelligence, cloud services and other high-performance computing workloads. The strategy of securing offtake agreements before construction also reflects a disciplined approach to capital allocation that could serve as a model for other developers.
FingerMotion is an evolving technology company with a core competency in mobile payment and recharge platform solutions in China. As its user base grows, the company is developing additional value-added technologies to market to its users. Its vision is to rapidly grow the user base and develop an ecosystem of highly engaged users, eventually serving over 1 billion users in the China market and expanding the model to other regional markets. The Alberta data center initiative represents a diversification into infrastructure that could complement its existing technology business.
